TOPIC: Avoid returning to the top of the page

Avoid returning to the top of the page 10 years 4 months ago #7556

Hi,

Is there a way we can avoid returning to the top of the page when adding payment or shipping data in the cart?

Thanks!

Hi,

Actually the page gets "refreshed" once the "shipping" or "payment" method is selected. So, it is normal if the page scrolls to the top, because this is what happens if the page gets refreshed. Unless # is used in the URL.

For example;
If the URL is yourdomain.com/#SCROLL then the page opens and scrolls down automatically where ever the
<div id="SCROLL">
is used.

With some coding modification, this feature can be implemented to our template in the shopping cart page, but our free support doesn't cover that kind of custom changes. Custom modifications are beyond our free support. You may consider purchasing premium support through: www.flexiblewebdesign.com/premium-support and let us take care this modification for you on your website.

Support.

One hour premium support would be enough for this. We are charging $70/hour. So this modification would cost you $70.
You can purchase the premium support through: www.flexiblewebdesign.com/premium-support

Hi,

for confirmation "Avoid returning to the top of the page" means:

1. Once the "shipping" or "payment" method is selected, saved or cancelled the screen should maintain the position.

2. Once a product in cart is "updated" or "removed" the screen should maintain the position too except the cart is empty.

Kind regards

Hi,

I should clarify things to avoid possible misunderstanding;
Your request can be handled by 2 different methods:

1- By AJAX loading.
The page won't be refreshed, only the portion of the page will get updated by AJAX, so there won't be any scrolling to the top after clicking the button.

2- In ordinary method, with the help of # in the URL.
The page will be refreshed like how it happens right now, but because of the # parameter in the URL, the page will be scroll down to the designated section automatically after the refresh.
To understand what i am saying click this link below:
www.flexiblewebdesign.com/forum-virtuemart-2-template-support/1632-avoid-returning-to-the-top-of-the-page#7683

the page will be opened and it will scrolled down to this message automatically. (otherwise you will see the top of the page)

SO, with the premium support, your case will be tackled by the 2nd method. (The 1st method is more complex way to do it)

Hi,

thanks for the response.

in fact and without doubt, your templates are really formidable and beautyful designed!

However I guess, you should think about making more user friendly templates for shoppers - not for programmers.

Did you ever made a shop for a little vinary or butchery with natural products - no software, no downloads, nothing virtual?

The customers of these companies are best ager 50+ and not skilled with PC or net experiences.

When these customers arrived to the cart, their odyssey is far from the end. In addition to the already complicated registration they have to select now payment and shipping method. After each selection, they are redirected to the top of the page. Then they think about, that it is better to increase the quantity of 2 sausages to 10 sausages. After updating quantity, again, they will be redirected to the page header. Now they have to scroll to the bottom of the page to check the order. Again, they will be redirected to the page header and no, they still can not order! They must scroll to the foot of the page for final submitting their orderl. Etc.., Etc. ...

Is it user friendly? I think no!

Your second solution for payment and shipment I have solved in less than 10 minutes including SSL redirections. However I guess, this should be standard in your templates at least.

Quantity update is still not solved. Is it possible to get a second checkout button on top of the page?

At least it's just a workaround. Would be great, if you could serve us with a proper solution! In an appropriate scope, it may also be charged.

Kind regards,

Teresa

Hi,

Teresa Hoffmann, there are some limitation in our stand point. We are only allowed to develop templates (which is usually about the visuality), the functionality, the way how the pages are generated are still up to Virtuemart Core Component. Beside, the "checkout" page is very sensitive page and we usually stay away from changing any functionality except changing the things visually on the checkout process. So, your concerns about checkout page (not being user-friendly) is something to do with core virtuemart. There are some 3rd party plugins that implement the AJAX loading in the shopping cart page, so the page never gets refreshed. But with a template.. no way to handle this easily. Or requires lots of customization. You can use google.com and find those 3rd party extensions (Virtuemart One-Page Checkout enriched by AJAX)

Anyway, this topic is going way beyond its title. So i am closing it and marking this case solved.
