I have products set up as Parent / Dynamic Child using stockable variant plugin - these work fine

Within the children products I have set up text string customfields as in your tutorial, but these do not change when you view the children by the dropdown in stockable variants?

Is this a template issue or a problem with my set up , perhaps?

Please first to make sure it does behave as you expect with the original Virtuemart layout.
Therefore, temporarily inactivate our VM Template from your website and run TEST.

To temporarly inactivate our VM Template, rename this folder:

ROOT/templates/<yourjoomlatemplate>/html/com_virtuemart/
to
ROOT/templates/<yourjoomlatemplate>/html/com_virtuemart2/

And when you browse your website, you would notice you are now using the original Virtuemart. See if you get what you are looking for with the original Virtuemart. If the result is the same, then it means, Virtuemart is not capable to what you are looking for and there is nothing i can do about it.

It looks like virtuemart doesn't allow custom fields to be used for Children products.
Which seem odd and a disappointment as I have spent ages getting them all working great as stockable variants.

You can see how it would be very useful as in your watches demo, when you change from leather strap to metallic, the specification still show as a certain size, colour, etc.

Maybe I'll hound Max Milbers to ask for it as a feature request

While adding "custom field" or "related products" or "related categories" to child products, there is a checkbox show off at the top:



(this checkbox shows off only if that particular product is "child product")

If you checked this checkbox, your changes will be saved to parent directly and all to the child products. Which has no difference than making changes to "parent product".

So basically you have no flexibility to define individual custom fields for individual child products, which is sucks! (i know) but this is what it is. Like always we do, we hope VM Developer come up with a solution about it, because only VM Developer can touch to VM Backend. Virtuemart Template shows what they are given.
