We are having some issues with the add-to-cart bottom. When clicking it with in some categories, instead of adding the product to the basket the user is redirected to the main page of the shop.
Any ideas of why this is happening?

If the user is redirected to shopping cart directly, this means there is a jQuery conflict in this page to avoid adding product to cart with jQuery AJAX loading.

Virtuemart "add to cart" button adds the product to cart with AJAX loading, if that fails to work, it goes to shopping cart (it is a good thing and it is a protection, otherwise nothing will happen.)

You need to investigate your website against "jquery" conflict with Mozilla Firefox Firebug plugin, to figure out what causes this jquery conflict in this page: www.aromesdemae.com/detalles-y-regalos

Having an extension that differs from www.aromesdemae.com/aromas/floral/huile-d-olive probably causes the conflict. For instance, slideshow, slider and other things that loads additional jQuery library would most likely cause the jQuery conflict.

Tried to solved with the JQuery Easy plugin.
Unfortunately no luck.

I also tried to debug the page with firebug but no errors were displaied.

Any ideas?

Ok, I think it is not a jquery problem.

For the same category if I use the following url it works:
www.aromesdemae.com/principal/detalles-y-regalos

And with the following url it does not:
www.aromesdemae.com/detalles-y-regalos

Although the page layout is exactly the same.

Is a multilingual page problem?
Is a category alias problem?
Any other possible problems?

I am %99 sure it is due to SEF URL,
What happens if you turn off the SEF URL generation? Did you try it for testing purpose? The issue still continues?

I tried to turn off the Search Engine Friendly URLs and replicate the issue.

Unfortunately the problem remains.

Could be an issue of multilingual shop, htaccess or similar?

Your website is now not accessible.
It says: "Could not connect to MySQL."

Please correct this failure. Disable the SEF URL feature and let me take a look at it again. (make sure the SEF URL is disabled, and the page URLs become something like:

ROOT/index.php?option=com_virtuemart..... etc..

When we turn on the modal popup upon 'Add to cart' and try to add a product to the cart the modal window appears.
Besides, it does not add anything to the cart, in any product, category... It does not work.

We disabled the add to cart function again to have the shop up and running.
We also enable the SEF functionality again as some customers are having issues with the cart.
Please, if you need to have it enabled for testing let us know.

Doing further tests, we find out that the login of existing users through the cart is neither working.
Other features of the template such as showing the discount and the price with and without taxeses are not working.

If the template is disable, everything works right.
We are going to enable the template again so you can find out what is going out.

Looks like there some weird thing is going on with your website and without looking into details i won't be able to figure out what it is.
