TOPIC: Main image keep resizing the webpage - part 2

Main image keep resizing the webpage - part 2 11 years 1 month ago #2998

Hello,
I recently asked for help cause of main image resizing the whole site in this topic: www.flexiblewebdesign.com/forum-virtuemart-2-template-puremart-support/657-main-image-keep-resizing-the-webpage#2681

Here is an example: gorast.com/gtest3/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=productdetails&virtuemart_product_id=946&virtuemart_category_id=62

Then, after adding the suggested css rule, the click-zoom dont work any more. The image is staying to its fixed width.

How can we fix that?

Thanks,
G

Hi,

Yes - it does seem to break the whole pop system - I think the base of your problem is the first image is square and then the rest are landscape...
It is also huge 1500px square with a stact of white space around it.. 165Kb ..

Can you do a quick experiment on cropping the first image to make it 833px X 524px?

Then see what happens?

Cheers

John

Hi,

I cropped the image, it did fixed the width problem but the thumbnail is deformed now. Can you please check again.

Also, I thought that the size and proportions doesn't maters when uploading images? That they are resized automatically and keeping the aspect ration? That's the whole point.

Thanks,
G

Hi,

your solution is this:

To any CSS file that gets loaded in product details page, include this CSS rule:
.productdetails-view {
   max-width: 800px;
}

And everything will be good to go.

Hi, I did that, and will see when I upload another image.
Can you please tell me why is the first thumb deformed and not in ration?

Did you delete and re-upload the image from product management or just replace the image in the folder?

Have you know gone back to the 1500px square image?

I really don't understand why you don't make your images roughly the same size? What's the point of a 164Kb - 1500px sq image?
It's far too big so is resized by the browser - slow to load because of the file size

The thumbnail is always going to look odd even if we fix the ratio cos it's sq and the rest are landscape...

Can you try with the attached image I made (in about 30 seconds) 833 X 524 px - same as all the rest of your images (49Kb)

Cheers

its not the problem for me to reside, but when you give the website to someone that have 0 knowledge of any applications that is the problem. That is why I'm testing the worst case scenarios. I need to know what to do when that happens.

Hi Gorast,

You need to use same resolution pictures, or make sure they have same aspect ratio.
So if one of your product image has 900x1500 (which is ratio of 3:5)
Make sure your other pictures uses the same aspect ratio, something like 600x900 or 300x500

So thumbnails will look the same when they are changed in the product details page. You can arrange the aspect ratios by adding pure white to top and below of them. Since your website background is also white, there won't be any odd appearing. If you browse some well-known ecommerce websites, you would instantly notice that all the product pictures they use have EXACTLY same resolutions or same aspect ratios, because only this way everything look much natural and cool.
