I think i have the same problem as the topic 'Parent product gets into basket' ?
I have 1 parent product (which should not be sold) and several child products.
The child products are all 'downloadable products'

Since downloadable (virtual selling) products are not part of VM2 anymore (in VM 1 there was no problem..) I bought the VM extension ' shipping virtual goods' for it. To use this plug in I have to attach it to a child product and I uncheck the value 'parent orderable'. But the parent product is still orderable on the frontpage and I don't want that.

Beside that I would like the name of the parent product printed on the shoppingcard, now I only see the name of the child product. Is that possible?

I did a fresh install of Virtuemart and the template but this problem remains. The template should come up with the popup ' Choose product' no? Just like you mentioned in the topic earlier about parent products into basket or is this something else?

I have the parent orderable option not enabled.
