Hi,

1- Open this CSS file:
/plugins/system/flexibleZoomEffect/media/css/flexibleZoomEffect.css

2- Scroll to the very bottom and insert these lines:

ul#FlexibleAdditionalGallery li a.active,
ul#FlexibleAdditionalGallery li a:hover {
	background:none;
	border-color: transparent
}

and the borders will be gone.

To change the color, (i.e: silver), simply insert these lines instead

ul#FlexibleAdditionalGallery li a.active,
ul#FlexibleAdditionalGallery li a:hover {
	background: #ccc;
	border-color: #ccc;
}
