John	Hmm - the problem for us is no-one has IE8 here - as IE9 runs fine on systems as old as XP can I ask why your using it? as far as I know MS support for IE8 finished long ago.. But it will be to do with column widths . you can try reducing the left column slightly e.g. Sidebar A Width reduced to 23% in the template admin etc.. cheers

Oscar Escañuela Donoso	Here many computers still use Internet explorer 8. Your solution does not work, reduce the column but it remains on the bottom.

I'm afraid you will have to do a bit of experimentation yourself because as I explained no-one we know has IE8..

will try to find an old install but in the meantime can you try a few things .. the markup is very basic

a wrapper 980px wide ( .wrapper ) and two columns - one 25% left floated (aside tag) , the other 75% right floated ( #maininner )(see screenshot)

perhaps the problem is IE8 doesn't understand the aside html5 tag?

could you try changing templates/flexible_lightmart/layouts/template.php line 153 to the below

<!--<aside id="sidebar-a" class="grid-box"><?php echo $this['modules']->render('sidebar-a', array('layout'=>'stack')); ?></aside>-->
<div id="sidebar-a" class="grid-box"><?php echo $this['modules']->render('sidebar-a', array('layout'=>'stack')); ?></div>

found this fix for IE6,7,8 for html5 tags

  for(var e,l="'article aside footer header nav section time'".split("' '");e=l.pop();document.createElement(e))
</s-cript>

you could also try adding that just before the </head> tag in the same file

both have no effect on modern browsers

remove the - in s-cript ... this is just for the forum

I tried what you told me, but I've gotten no positive results ... I can not solve myself.

On the old browser theme I can suggest the following program to simulate the browser internet explorer 8: IETester

Thanks for the tip - yes - remember using this debug thing under XP - now we are all on IE9 & 10 we don't need it - after 20 years of trying MS finally built a half decent browser

So - have found using this that the problem is IE8 puts the left div inside the main content for some bizarre reason!!!

so it's not a float or space issue - or html5..

Have passed this to the dev team - hopefully they will find something --

Support	I am using a Mac OsX, i don't even have IE9. How am i supposed to test it through IE8 :) I will find a way to test it though. Oscar, did you test it through native IE8 (not a simulation through IE9 or the software you have provided) and end up with the same error? Regards, Support & Development

Oscar Escañuela Donoso	I understand your problem with Internet Explorer 8. But it is you who suggest that your template is compatible des Internet Explorer 6. You are absolutely right. I don't know what to say.

I am removing that 6+ text from there. How the hell i haven't noticed that before, this is insane, nothing is compatible to IE6 these days ;)

Please try this. (since i haven't been able to find a native IE8, i can't test it by myself)

Open this PHP file:

/templates/flexible_lightmart/html/com_virtuemart/productdetails/default.php

And scroll to the very bottom and you will see this PHP end-tag:

<?php } // if quicklook, then the bottom TAB section will be invisible END ?>

Add an extra </div> below it, so change the last line with this:

<?php } // if quicklook, then the bottom TAB section will be invisible END ?>
</div>

see If it helps and then let me know.
