Hi,
Not working automatic update for Joomla is a common problem, and it is hosting/server related issue. Probably your hosting is blocking external connection for security reasons (an external connection is required to checking/updating).
But there is an easy way for that; browse this page:
joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/frs/?action=index
and downlaod this update file:
Joomla_2.5.x_to_2.5.14-Stable-Patch_Package.zip
Then install that ZIP file through "Joomla Extensions Manager" as if you are installing an ordinary module/plugin to your joomla. Then you will get 2.5.14 which is the latest stable version of joomla 2.5.xx as of now.
About automatic updating Virtuemart, even your server did let external connection, it wouldn't work, because Virtuemart stop supporting automatic update.
They have notified this already:
Just use hte normal installation routine provided by joomla. Also you should disable for a clean installation the akeeba installer in case you use it. We are sorry, but we had not the time yet to replace the liveupdater with a better system.
so, go to
www.virtuemart.net, download the most recent virtuemart versions and install it through "Joomla Extension Manager".
If you having "can't save the template settings" problem, then try to use IE, Safari or Chrome. It must be browser related issue. If you change the browser, you should be able to successfully save the template settings.
Regards.
