is there a way to allow a shopper to select up to 3 choices?

We have a product that has Custom Field Type: Image

We have 20 images (product variations) each one has a different price,

We want the shopper to be able to select upto 3 colors, these are add to cart attributes.

is this possible?

I don't think it would be possible with the default Custom Field Type: Image. Lots of customizations/modifications are required to add that feature. But since that custom-field-type is a stock (that comes with official Virtuemar Coret), it is not ideal to touch the Core Virtuemart Files.

You need a "Custom built Custom-Field-Type Plugin. Have you checked it on google.com? Maybe there is an alternative image type custom field from a 3rd party VM developers that fulfills your need.
