I have asked about this issue in the VM forum and they have suggested the problem could be to do with the template, and i have been asked to try the Beez template, it isnt installed so im not sure how to test this issue.

I have been so happy with this template and i suspect that the issue is more down to something i have done than anything wrong with the template. I have a test site setup that i can give you access to to test at 89.200.137.238/laverockhallfarm.co.uk

If i set the parent product as not orderable in the Custom Fields, which would make sense my "Add to cart" button is replaced by a button that says "Click here for size options" and is not actually clickable (the mouse shows as a red No Entry sign when hovered over it.) see attachement.

Also with it setup like this i get a price in the category view and an option to "Add to Cart" which shouldnt be there at all. The dropdown options work fine in the product flypage.

Ideally, when you use "Generic Child Variant"

FYI: you should choose "parent product as not order able" checkbox. (so you did the right thing)

The "Add to cart" button on product details page will be replaced with "Choose a product variant" (but you can change this text via Language INI file, as i am seeing you have done it already).

The "Add to cart" button on category page, should be gone. User should be able to add any product to cart only through product details page. Because changing the product attribute functionality for Generic Child Variant doesn't work on category page, it is a VM core thing. It doesn't work with original VM layout as well. AJAX and many other things gets involved, simply it doesn't work. Visitor should visit the product details page to choose child-products (attributes) and add the product to cart.

But, the thing is; the "add to cart" button should be disappeared on category page if the product has "Generic Child Variant" custom field. Did you touch the category PHP file to avoid this happens?
