Hi,
K2 brings an extra load to Joomla, because it is a complex and advanced component (not for just blogging). Therefore K2 increases the page loading performance. Therefore, making the K2 pre-installed by default to Asymmetric doesn't make any sense, as not many people are using blog feature in joomla websites. Or they are not interested in what K2 offers.
But, you can do it by yourself though. Did you try to install the K2 component to Asymmetric? Did you face some difficulties?
We haven't add/install anything to Asymmetric regarding to blogging. The blog in Asymmetric is in the official Joomla state. (we just used CSS to style the blog pages, and that's it). So, if you install K2, it won't conflict with nothing. As if you are installing K2 component to ordinary Joomla website.
But If i were you, I would separate the blog section from joomla website. I would use Wordpress for blog section and Joomla for the main website. The SEO, avoid comment-spam, security, posting blogging, organizing topics etc.. are a lot more easier and better in WordPress.
This is actually exactly what we have done in our website.
if you browse
www.flexiblewebdesign.com/blog you will see it is using WordPress (the main website
www.flexiblewebdesign.com is using Joomla2.5.x though)
